All You Need to Know About Rear View Cameras

What is a Rear View Camera?
A rear view camera, also known as a reversing camera, is a device installed in vehicles or equipment to provide a live feed of the area behind the vehicle. This technology aims to improve safety by helping drivers avoid obstacles and reducing blind spots during reversing maneuvers. Rear view cameras typically include a camera mounted at the rear of the vehicle and a display screen in the cabin that shows the camera feed.

What Are the Key Differences Between Rear View Cameras and Side View Cameras?
Confused about whether to choose a rear view camera or a side view camera for your vehicle? Both types of cameras play crucial roles in enhancing visibility and safety, but they serve different purposes and have distinct features. Understanding their differences can help you decide which camera best suits your needs. Let’s explore the key distinctions between rear view and side view cameras.
What Are Rear View and Side View Cameras?
Rear View Camera: Also known as a reversing camera, it is installed at the rear of the vehicle to provide a clear view of the area behind the vehicle. It assists drivers in avoiding obstacles and safely maneuvering when reversing.
Side View Camera: Installed on the sides of the vehicle, these cameras provide a view of the areas adjacent to the vehicle. They help in monitoring blind spots and improving lane changes, particularly useful in larger vehicles or those with limited visibility.

Components of Reversing Camera
Confused about what makes up a reversing camera and how each component contributes to its functionality? Understanding the key components can help you make a more informed choice and ensure that the camera you select meets your specific needs. From the camera lens to the display screen, each part plays a crucial role in delivering clear and reliable images. Let’s break down these components and their functions
Table of Contents
Key Components of a Reversing Camera
Camera Lens
The lens is the component that captures the visual information. It determines the field of view and image quality. A wide-angle lens is preferable for a broader view, while higher resolution lenses provide clearer images. We can supply 2.1mm lens (150 degree) 2.8mm lens (120degree), 3.6mm lens (90degree),6mm lens(60 degree), 8mm lens (40 degree).

Image Sensor
The image sensor converts the light captured by the lens into an electronic signal, which is then processed into a video image. Common types include CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) , CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) sensors, with CCD offering higher image quality.and AHD (Analogue High Definition)

Camera Housing
The housing protects the camera from environmental elements such as water, dust, and extreme temperatures. It should be weatherproof and durable to ensure reliable performance under various conditions.

Reversing Camera Housing Design
Are you unsure about the importance of housing design in a reversing camera? The design and construction of a camera’s housing play a crucial role in its durability and performance. A well-designed housing protects the camera from environmental factors, ensuring reliable operation and longevity. In this guide, we’ll explore the key aspects of reversing camera housing design and why it matters.
Key Aspects of Reversing Camera Housing Design
Material: The material used for the housing affects the camera’s durability and resistance to environmental factors. Common materials include:
- Aluminum: Known for its strength and lightweight properties, aluminum is often used for its durability and heat dissipation.
- Plastic: High-quality, weather-resistant plastics are also used, offering good protection while being cost-effective.
- Stainless Steel: Used for its superior resistance to corrosion and harsh conditions, though it can be heavier and more expensive.
Weatherproofing: Effective weatherproofing ensures that the camera remains functional in various conditions, such as rain, snow, and extreme temperatures. Look for housings with high IP ratings (e.g., IP67 or IP68) to guarantee protection against water and dust ingress.
Design and Shape: The shape and design of the housing can impact both functionality and aesthetics. Key design considerations include:
- Aerodynamics: Streamlined designs help reduce wind resistance and prevent debris accumulation.
- Mounting Options: Adjustable brackets and versatile mounting options ensure proper installation and alignment.
Ventilation: Proper ventilation helps manage heat generated by the camera’s electronics. Some housings include vents or heat sinks to prevent overheating and maintain optimal performance.
Impact Resistance: The housing should be designed to withstand impacts and vibrations. Reinforced or shock-absorbent materials can help protect the camera from accidental collisions and rough handling.
Ease of Maintenance: Accessible design features can simplify maintenance and cleaning. Removable covers or easy-to-clean surfaces can help keep the camera in good working condition.

Wiring and Connectors
These components transmit the video signal from the camera to the display screen. Proper wiring and connectors ensure stable and clear video transmission. Some systems also include wireless options to eliminate the need for extensive wiring.
Power Supply
The camera needs a power source to operate, typically drawn from the vehicle’s electrical system. Ensure that the camera is compatible with your vehicle’s power requirements and that the installation is done correctly.

Camera Waterproof IP
Are you considering a camera for outdoor use and wondering how important the waterproof rating is? Understanding IP (Ingress Protection) ratings can help you choose a camera that withstands various environmental conditions. Whether it’s for a rear view camera or another type, the IP rating indicates how well the camera resists water and dust. Let’s delve into what IP ratings mean and how they affect your camera choice.
An IP rating, or Ingress Protection rating, is an international standard that measures a device’s resistance to dust and water. The rating is expressed as “IP” followed by two digits: the first digit indicates protection against solid particles, and the second digit signifies protection against liquids. For example, an IP68 rating means the camera is both dust-tight and can withstand submersion in water beyond 1 meter.

- IP65: Dust tight and protected against water jets. Suitable for outdoor use in various weather conditions, including rain.
- IP67: Dust tight and protected against temporary immersion in water up to 1 meter. Ideal for cameras that may be exposed to occasional submersion.
- IP68: Dust tight and protected against continuous immersion in water. Suitable for cameras used in environments where full immersion might occur, such as underwater photography.
- IP69K rating ensures that no dust can enter the camera, making it ideal for use in dusty or dirty environments. This level of protection prevents any potential damage or malfunction caused by dust ingress.
Additional Features
Advanced camera may include additional features to enhance functionality and user experience:
- Mirror/ Normal Image switch: Allows the driver to adjust the image orientation to match their viewing preferences.
- Reversing Marking Lines: Can be set and adjusted to provide clear guidance while reversing.
- Camera Audio: Reversing camera audio typically refers to the ability of some reversing camera systems to capture and transmit audio along with video footage.
